Scenic landscape, pleasant boating and great fishing make Summersville Lake a popular place for vacations or quick get-away's. This 2,700-acre lake on the Gauley River, is the largest lake in WV. It is conveniently located in the central part of the state, at Mt Nebo. Campgrounds, shopping, restaurants and fishing tackle are all convenient to visitors. The marina offers boat rentals and complete marina services. There are several public boat launch ramps to accommodate pleasure, pontoon, sailing and fishing boats. Anglers can explore over 60 miles of shoreline, mostly by boat. In some of the campgrounds there are areas for fishing from shore, or portage of kayaks, canoes or car-top boats. Anglers here pursue bass, trout, walleye, crappie, perch, catfish and sunfish, with bass, crappie and walleye the most attention.
