Over 6,500 surface acres and 30 miles of shoreline await boaters and anglers at Lake Lyndon B Johnson (Lake LBJ) in the south-central part of the state, at Marble Falls. Rental boats are available at numerous locations around the lake. Multiple boat launch ramps, marinas and amenities around the lake make Lake LBJ a great place to bring the family for boating camping and fishing. Largemouth bass and white bass get most of the attention here, but the lake also maintains good populations of catfish, crappie, sunfish, smallmouth bass, gar, stripers and hybrid striped bass. In February schools of white bass migrate up the river sections of the lake to spawn. Likewise, bass and crappie move shallower to spawn as well. As summer warms the water, the bulk of the fish move deeper until Fall when they migrate back to shallower water. Winter tends to move most fish to deeper water around creek channels, ledges and humps. Catfish can be caught year round and sunfish are most easily caught in summer. Stripers and hybrid striped bass follow schools of bait as they too make this seasonal migration.
