11,500 surface acres provide room for all types of boating and watersport activities on Lake Somerville, a reservoir in the southeast part of the state, at Somerville, TX. Nearly a dozen boat launch ramps and a couple marinas make this an ideal place to go boating, camping and fishing. Bass boats, pontoons, runabouts, pleasure boats, sailboats, canoes, kayaks and a host of smaller fishing boats all use these waters. Notorious for excellent white bass fishing, the reservoir has over 80 miles of shoreline surrounding this fertile fishery that offers fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, hybrid stripers, and numerous sunfish species, including bluegill. Except at high-water levels, there is little vegetation in the lake. Fish tend to follow the baitfish as they move shallow in spring and fall, then deeper in summer and winter. Hybrids and white bass may be found in open water as long as the schools of bait are in the area. Bass, crappie and sunfish will relate to rocky banks, points, humps, ledges, creek channels or brush.
