In addition to spectacular boating, the main draw at Logan Martin Lake is fishing for largemouth and spotted bass. Numerous places around the lake provide access for portage of a canoe or kayak. Plenty of campgrounds scattered around the lake make for an ideal place to stay for a fishing outing or a family vacation. This 15,000-acre reservoir is located in east-central Alabama on the Coosa River, 30 miles east of Birmingham. Over 275 miles of shoreline await anglers to fish from the bank (where access is permitted) or from a boat. Crappie, catfish sunfish, white bass, stripers and hybrid striped bass all thrive here and invite anglers to come enjoy the fishing. Largemouth, spots and redeye bass can be caught year round but spring and fall are ideal times as the bass move shallower. White, hybrid and striped bass make annual runs upriver each Spring creating conditions for excellent fishing below the Neely Henry dam. To enhance fishing opportunities there are fishing piers, marinas, public fishing areas and boat ramps for pleasure and fishing boats.
